I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Process Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Zanzibar. My research integrates chemical engineering fundamentals with separation science, with a focus on adsorption and membrane based processes for direct air capture, carbon capture, gas separations, blue hydrogen and industrial water treatment.
Prior to joining at IIT Madras Zanzibar, I was a Mitacs Accelerate Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Laboratory of Advanced Separations (LASP) in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at the University of Alberta, Canada. There, I worked on the design and development of structured beds for carbon capture, which encompassed investigating mass-transfer resistances in adsorbents and tailoring metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs), amine functionalized materials for improved separation efficiency in industrial carbon capture processes and other applications relevant to gas separation. This project was funded by TotalEnergies and Mitacs.
I completed my Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, where my doctoral thesis, "Contaminants Removal from Aqueous Solution using Engineered Layered Double Hydroxides," addressed the tuning of layered materials for various industrial and groundwater treatment applications, alongside scale-up into mixed matrix modules (finer, sheets and beads). I also had experience working on the development of membranes to increase the shelf-life of fruit juices, such as, sugarcane and coconut etc. I obtained my Master of Technology at the Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology Bhopal.
I believe that solving engineering research problems requires combining analysis, prior experience, and fundamental knowledge. This approach helps in developing new methodologies for practical problems and leads to more meaningful research outcomes.
